WARNING!
If you have not watched Next Food Network Star do not read this post.
Now don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! Mine was filled with some relaxing, date night, and a BBQ! Oh and l also finally finished Little Bee. I started this book mid-June when I was on vacation. 2 months later I finished – not bad.
In all honesty this is the first book I have read start to finish in 6 months. Crazy right? A book has to be very good to grab and keep my attention and this one was. One of my old clients recommended it to me and refused to tell me what it was about. The back of the book reads as follows:
Therefore, I am not going to tell you anything about the book other than READ IT! It is so well written and while I would love to spill the beans I just can’t.
Last Sunday E and I said goodbye to my sister. Yesterday it was time to say goodbye to his sis who is heading to California for grad school.
[Insert extreme weather jealousy here]
I made Jessica’s hot caprese dip as an appetizer. I’ve made it before and it never disappoints. The only thing disappointing about it is that you might eat too much and it might spoil your dinner a bit.
E’s sis and I rolled with grilled tofu for dinner. She marinated the tofu in teriyaki sauce along with some added garlic. It was grilled and then topped with a bit more of the marinade. I also had a side of potatoes topped with caramelized onions to go with it.
The onions were so sweet I couldn’t stop eating them! This is such a bizarre thing for me to say because I used to hate onions. I still despise the raw ones but these were good. She also made some polenta which was grilled and then topped with a little cheese. I had a taste right after it was cooked but was too full to grab it for dinner.
Lucky for me I went home with the leftovers!
After dinner K and I watched The Next Food Network Star.

While I loved all 3 of them I was really happy that Jeff won. Chicago represent!! Personally I can see Vic and Susie also getting a show. I just don’t think the station will let both of them go. They are so likable and would bring new energy to The Food Network. Who did you all want to win?
After the show it was impossible to pass up dessert you know, because I hadn’t consumed enough already. So chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream it was. The ice cream sandwich was from Oberweis and all sorts of amazing.
At least I practiced my portion control skills and only had half.
Along with a pretty large food baby, I also went home with some gifts! E’s mom gave me an orchid – my favorite flower.
And this giant bag of masa (along with a bunch of other food!). Now what should I make with it?
I’m off to go rock Monday so I’ll talk to ya later!

I love the food network haha! and I have no idea what you should make with the flour….I have never cooked with Masa before! enjoy Monday
I was sooo happy Jeff won. I really liked Susie too, but something about Jeff was endearing and honest. And where’s the other half of that ice cream cookie?? I want it!
It was a good season! I grew to really like Jeff and will watch the new show. Even his new commercial is cute. Great orchid! I have several from over the years and the only advice I can give is: once they stop flowering don’t get rid of them. Mine bloom 2x/year for about 2 months at a time.
I know, I know, the horror…. but I never actually watched TNFNS!
shame on me.
but I loooove Jess’ caprese dip.. I’ve totally spoiled a few meals with that baby. and your orchid looks so purty!
It’s sad when you can’t find the time to finish a book. I’ve gotten into the habit of carrying a book with me and we’re allowed to read at work since we have a lot of downtime throughout the day.
Masa flour! We actually use that in programming where I volunteer. We use it to make tortillas.
Orchids are my favourite flowers too! So so elegant (but expensive)!
Man am I craving an ice cream cookie sandwich after that picture! Mmmm

So I’m WAY behind on Food Network Star (and hoping that it’ll come to iTunes SOON, so I can catch up), but my all-time favorite Food Network star will always be Rachel Ray, followed closely by Alton Brown. Despite his kookiness, I think he + Tim Gunn + Obama would make the perfect man, if not rather strange looking…

You know, I never got into Food Network Star this season. I usually do get hooked into it.
Love the idea of marinating tofu in teriyaki and garlic. Sounds delicious. I’m gonna have to give that a try.

Oooh, thanks for the book recommendation! I haven’t heard of that one, but I need another good one for the weekend. I have been really out of the habit of reading until lately (for fun, anyway), and now I can’t stop!

Now I’m seriously intrigued to read that book!
I didn’t catch all of this season but it seems to me any of the final three would have made a good winner so I’m happy with the result.

Okay, I’m definitely intrigued by that book- I might have to head to the library tonight! And about Jeff- I actually know him from my childhood- he was friends with my sister! His parents live about 3 blocks from mine, and I was actually at his parents’ house yesterday taking care of his dog while they went to the finale party. SO glad he won- he’s so funny and relatable. Super jealous of all your yummy food!

It all looks awesome but the dip and ice cream sandwich would be at the top of my list!!
Totally agree about Vic…he will absolutely get his own show!

I got really into this season and felt like they had a lot of great people! I personally thought Suzie was going to win, she has great stories and food too. I was surprised Jeff won! He was also really great too though so congrats to him
Thanks for the book recommendation…I need a new one! The tofu looks especially good, as does the cookie sandwich.
What are your plans for Masa?

Aaahh! I’m so happy Jeff won!!! I was rooting for him. I’m sad Vic didn’t, but Jeff deserved it a tiny bit more. I never did get into Susie though.
